Featured project: bright, solid, and easy to live in
A recent kitchen I rebuilt (at our previous home) started with soft floors and insect damage and ended as a bright, low-maintenance space.
Scope highlights
- Opened the room to the studs, removed a rotten subfloor, and eliminated termite/carpenter-ant damage
- Jacked and stabilized walls; replaced ~30' of rim joist/sill and installed a new plywood subfloor
- Set a durable Saltillo tile floor (cement board underlayment, handmade tiles, sealed for easy cleaning)
- Replaced flimsy dated paneling with high-quality wood panels; sanded, primed, and painted
- Installed ceramic tile backsplash
- Upgraded faucet and light fixtures; replaced and upgraded interior trim
- Installed new refrigerator and dishwasher; made custom spice racks
Note: Cabinets and countertops were provided by a local shop.
